Family Fun activities on the Gold Coast that won’t break the bank

Affordable Family Fun Activities on the Gold Coast

Going on holiday to an amazing destination like the Gold Coast in Queensland can be great fun for the whole family, especially if you've chosen one of the top family-friendly resorts! However, holidaying isn’t cheap and keeping everyone in the family entertained with activities during a full week or longer can easily jeopardise your savings account.

Here are our top things to do on the Gold Coast for the entire family without breaking the bank (some that are even under $100 for a family of 4).

Holey Moley Mini Golf & Bar

You might have seen the TV show with the same name, Holey Moley is the ultimate mini putt course and a must-play for any mini golf fiend.

Our favourite thing about this fun-filled destination in the heart of Surfers Paradise is that it combines good food and exotic cocktails with some good old fashion competitive fun. And the price?

Here you can get a couple of pizzas, cocktails and nine holes of putt-putt mini golf for under $100, for two. How’s that for bang for your buck?

SUP at Currumbin Boatshed

If mini golf is not enough to satisfy your hunger for fun-filled sports, Stand-up Paddleboarding in the Currumbin waterways might just be the activity for you. Right on the water at Currumbin Creek, you’ll find the Boatshed, offering paddle board hire for $15 per person, 7 days a week.

You decide the pace and intensity of your 1.5-hour paddle, with plenty of scenery to admire along your way.

SUP is suitable for most skill levels and ages, with instructors and safety equipment readily available if needed.

Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary

Who doesn’t love animals? And who doesn’t love helping animals in need? Well, at the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary (not far from the SUP Boatshed) you can not only watch, feed and learn about Australian native animals, but the admission proceeds are also a vital part of the important work the sanctuary does at the hospital wing.

For a few extra dollars, you can get up close and personal with the animals and bring home a photo with a new koala friend, or simply share a snack with one of the many kangaroos jumping about.

This is a full day of fun with a crocodile feeding show and Aboriginal performances on the itinerary, so ensure you bring plenty of water and have a good camera on hand.

For $150 a family of 4 can spend the entire day learning about our animal friends.

Barefoot Bowls

For competitive families a day out on the greens, no not the golfing greens but the lawn bowl greens, might just hit the spot.

This slow-paced but competitive day activity can be found in almost every Gold Coast suburb, from Labrador down to Burleigh, and usually only costs around $10-$15 per person, and in some places even cheaper for kids. Many lawn bowl venues have Sunday or midweek specials where you can play, eat and drink for next to nothing.

But don’t forget, the sun is almost always shining in Queensland so a wide-brimmed hat and sunscreen is a must before you play.

Duck bus city tour with the Quack’rDuck

Naturally, we leave the best for last; the ultimate in unique family adventures, the Quack’rDuck Gold Coast duck boat tour!

This is a Gold Coast sightseeing tour with a difference as the Quack’rDuck bus has been designed to travel over both land and sea.

Hop aboard and let your tour guide show you the Gold Coast as you’ve never seen it before. As well as enjoying views of the city, beaches and even Sea World from your exclusive vantage point, the Quack’rDuck then dips into the water to take in the stunning views of Marina Mirage, Paradise Waters and more through the meandering canals and waterways.

Over an hour-long tour, you can settle back in comfort and take in the Gold Coast at a slower pace. Operating seven days a week, the whole family will love the awesome and amphibious Quack’rDuck.
